Losing weight is easy, but not easy

How did she manage to lose 25 pounds within 8 months? She stuck to these 3 wisdoms: It’s easy, but not easy. If you want to lose weight, you only have to eat fewer calories than you consume. That sounds easy, but: “The first time was really tough, because I had eaten completely wrong for years and had to train a healthy diet first laboriously.”

In the past, the 26-year-old had always skipped breakfast and shoveled a XXL serving for lunch. And most of the time, the wrong thing ended up on the plate: “My meals usually consisted of too many carbohydrates, that is noodles, potatoes and rice, plus greasy fish fingers and hardly any vegetables.

Sure, there was the first difficult conversion, as in the morning crispbread with lean turkey breast on the menu and there were only a few tomatoes and pickles. For lunch, a piece of chicken breast with lots of vegetables was on the plate, and in the evening there was either a salad with tuna or a yogurt. And in between? There was nothing. “Only in the absolute emergency I ate an apple or a banana as a snack.” The hardest thing for Jessica was the renunciation of sugar. “It was like a real withdrawal, but after 3 or 4 days, the desire for sweets actually subsided.”

The strenght is to be found in serenity. Since a change in diet alone is not enough to lose weight, Jessica began at the same time with sports. “It was important for me to be self-determined and independent, so I practiced a lot at home with my Wii, and every day I did 1.5 hours of aerobics or muscle building workouts, or I walked outside.” During that time she also tried yoga – and was thrilled. Also because it helped her to persevere. “Losing so much weight is exhausting and, in a sense, stress for both body and soul, and the asanas relaxed me because I was able to concentrate on myself and hide everything else,” she recalls. That this was not a subjective feeling, confirm various studies. Yoga has been proven to reduce stress hormones such as cortisol and adrenaline, thereby reducing the risk of stress-feeding. “Also, yoga made me more patient and more balanced, and I did not panic for two weeks, so I did not panic, just continued until I finally got over the weight loss.”


Family and friends took care of

Trust is good, control is better. In order for her weight loss project to last, Jessica created an extra safety net: she made friends and family co-watchers. “I asked them to take care of the shooting dogs so that I do not fall back into old habits, and they should remind me of my intentions every time I wanted to treat myself to a cake at a party.” The plan worked – Jessica persevered and lost 25 kilos in just 8 months. The joy was huge when she was back in the locker room and this time in a dress in size 40 fit. “Even more elementary than weight loss is my mental change,” says Jessica. “I used to be shy because I found myself fat and ugly. Today I am much more open, self-confident and approach other people too. This change is actually the greatest asset. ”

“There was a phase when I weighed only 65 kilograms, theoretically a dream weight with a height of 1.72 meters, but in practice I did not feel so well at all I found myself too thin, felt the bones on my back Worst of all, my job was physically exhausting and I had no strength at all, so I consciously put in a few pounds again and did a lot of strength training. ”


My favorite recipe: Quark fruit casserole

500g low-fat quark

⅛ l of milk

2 tablespoons honey

2 egg yolks

20g of flour

2 egg whites

500g sour fruit (sour cherries, redcurrants)

A little butter

1 pinch of cinnamon

1 pinch of sugar

Mix the thin quark, milk, honey, egg yolk and flour with a blender or whisk to a smooth cream. Then beat the egg whites until stiff and add to the quark mixture. Wash fruits and chop them into bite-sized pieces. Put the fruit in a greased casserole dish. Pour in the quark mixture and sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar. Bake at 180 degrees (top / bottom heat) for about 40-45 minutes.
